I inherited astigmatism* and have suffered from nearsightedness since I was 14 years old. *Astigmatism: With astigmatism, the normal cornea which is round and
smooth like a baseball curves more severely like a football. All objects
are distorted and images are blurred because some of the light rays are
focused and others are not. This is similar to the distortion produced
by a wavy pane of glass. Astigmatism is corrected by bending the light
rays onto a single plane. PureVision™ contact lenses have an enhanced
optical design to correct spherical aberration, a natural occurrence in
which light rays are refracted at different angles as they pass through
the eye. Left uncorrected, spherical aberration can result in less than
optimal visual quality.
